History of Goshen Park District
The Goshen Park District is the final result of a study done in 1992 by the Land of Goshen Initiative (LOGI). The study found that the desire for recreational facilities ranked in the top five on the list of things people would like to see in Goshen. The Goshen Recreation Commission (GRC) was formed after completion of this study. Since that time, GRC has been active in the community. In addition to community functions, GRC was also pursuing land for a community park. In their venture for land it was discovered there were many aspects that were not obtainable by a non-profit 501C3 organization.
It was at this time that the GRC circulated petitions stating that the people of Goshen would like to see a Park District formed and parks established. Over 300 signed petitions pursuaded the GoshenTownship Trustees to place an issue on the ballot in November of 1998. The issue passed and the Goshen Park District was formed in 1999.
The Goshen Park District then assumed the task of aquiring land for parks in Goshen. The GRC still remains the foundation for the Goshen Park District. The Goshen Park District is one of the few park districts in the State of Ohio. Most townships have park departments which are governed by township trustees. The Goshen Park District has a board of five Park Commissioners appointed by the Township Trustees and are governed solely by the Ohio Revised Code.
Summer Schedule for Park District Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of the Month, 6:30pm at the Goshen Twp. Hall.
